Telco Systems Initiates the Open Edge Alliance to Accelerate Availability of Carrier-Grade SDN/Distributed NFV Solutions at the Network Edge

Growing alliance attracts startups and established solution providers with rapid access to market of their innovative, interworking solutions

MANSFIELD, MA, March 11, 2015 – Telco Systems the leading provider of innovative SDN & NFV and multi-service Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and MPLS edge solutions for mobile backhaul, business Ethernet services and cloud networking, today announced the formal launch of its Open Edge Alliance to create an industry-leading ecosystem of best-of-breed SDN and distributed NFV (D-NFV) solutions for the network edge.

The Open Edge Alliance bestows significant benefits on its members. With minimal investment in the process – especially attractive to startups and small innovators – Alliance members are able to develop apps that become fully certified components of complete, carrier-grade, network-edge solutions. They are able to integrate their products rapidly into the ecosystem thus reducing time to market as well as their expenses. The Alliance is building up an online store of applications certified to run seamlessly on Telco Systems’ carrier-grade, Distributed NFV-hosting CloudMetro™ platform, already deployed in numerous service-provider networks.

CloudMetro enables service providers to transform their networks from mere transport to fully IT-enabled networks – highly orchestrated, agile and virtualized. It combines a switch and an integrated x86 CPU from Intel™ as a hosting processor to meet performance demands for processor-intensive software defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) applications.

The Open Edge Alliance is already attracting global technology leaders, domain experts and startups who are interested in promoting the evolution to intelligent telco networks. As an initial member of the Alliance, Check Point provides customers with uncompromised defenses against all types of cyberattacks and simplifies IT security management. In addition to Check Point, the Alliance has also been joined by AudioCodes and Netrounds.

AudioCodes, the leading supplier of converged VoIP and data solutions for service providers and enterprises, has joined the Alliance with its virtualized software Session Border Controller that delivers connectivity, security, resiliency and quality of service for cloud based unified communication and contact center services.

“We are excited to bring our latest cloud communications demarcation solution to the network edge as part of the Open Edge Alliance. Adhering to the NFV architecture, it facilitates faster adoption of hosted enterprise communication services, assuring high voice quality and service continuity, while enabling smooth migration away from legacy communications equipment.” said Yehuda Herscovici, AudioCodes’ VP Product.

Another innovator taking advantage of membership in the Alliance is Netrounds, a provider of an agile on-demand service assurance solution. Using Netrounds’ virtualized test and measurement probes, service providers achieve cost reductions, as well as improving service agility and end-user experience.Netrounds’ CEO, Mats Nordlund, stated, “The entire networking industry is striving to enable agile networks that deliver assured connectivity services orchestrated across network domains between physical and virtual service endpoints. Teaming up with Telco Systems and the Alliance makes it possible to provide such a solution to service providers.”

“We are enthusiastic by the leading vendors who have already joined our alliance and we look forward to attracting many more participants,” declared Moshe Shimon, VP of Product Management and Marketing at Telco Systems. “Service providers need to see carrier-grade VNFs coming in real numbers. With our large customer base and extensive experience in delivering intelligent network solutions all the way to the network edge, our Open Edge Alliance is bridging the gap between Distributed NFV vendors and telco customers. The many great off-the-shelf applications are speeding up the adoption process to the benefit of all.”

Hardware and software vendors and domain experts, large and small, who are committed to shaping the future of intelligent networking, are encouraged to join the Open Edge Alliance by contacting Telco Systems.
