K-PowerNet Chooses Telco Systems for Mobile Backhaul Deployment

Solution supports 4G cellular services in Missouri, Oklahoma

MANSFIELD, MA – May 4, 2011 - Telco Systems, a BATM company (LSE: BVC) and provider of multi-service Carrier Ethernet access and demarcation solutions, has been chosen by K-PowerNet to provide the demarcation solution for their mobile backhaul network serving northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri.

K-PowerNet’s mobile backhaul solution is based on Telco Systems’ T-Marc 3208SH mobile backhaul demarcation solution and supports next generation LTE/4G services. “Because the cell sites where we are placing these devices is not temperature controlled, it is imperative that the demarcation device operate reliably in that environment,” stated Walt Kenyon, chief technology officer for K-PowerNet. “We know that our mobile operators have very demanding requirements for reliability and security as well. We selected Telco Systems T-Marc 3208SH Ethernet demarcation solution because it not only met all of our requirements for our mobile backhaul operation but also provided resiliency, traffic engineering and security features to meet our customer’s needs.”

The T-Marc 3208SH is specifically designed for cell site deployment and can operate effectively in temperatures ranging from -40° to 158°F (-40 to 70C). It supports a full complement of OAM tools which allows K-PowerNet to monitor end-to-end services, identify connectivity and performance issues and isolate any problems from a remote location.

K-PowerNet utilizes 2500 miles of fiber optic cabling to provide data services to service providers and businesses. Acting as a wholesale provider, they also sell excess capacity to other carriers and ISPs and offer bandwidth profiles up to 10G. They offer virtual leased line services that support both voice and data as well as MPLS services.

K-PowerNet plans to migrate all of their existing Ethernet services to the MPLS network which is designed to be extremely scalable capable of supporting hundreds of services and customers at very high bandwidth. In addition they plan to move some of the data services and video conferencing they offer to other utilities onto the MPLS network as well.
